Happy Birthday To Us!
March 10th 2003, the date ashingtonafc.com was born!
The birth of ashingtonafc.com was out of the blue and certainly nothing I had planned on doing. Having just beaten South Shields 3-1 at Portland Park a couple of us left the ground and discussed how we would like to compile a website dedicated to Ashington Football Club. It was a task and a half for a couple of lads who had no experience whatsoever in web design and were starting from scratch. Two days later the web package was ordered and we were on our way. The first guise of ashingtonafc.com was basic (and that is being kind!) but did the job in the main.
However let us not forget however that we were not the first Ashington FC website on the scene, The Pit Pony Express website had already been up and running for several years, maintained by Colliers exile Mick Hydes.
The website was not just a tool to inform people of the happenings at Ashington FC, it also provided a platform for more social interaction between different fans within the message board and at the club. It has evolved through different styles over the past five years as you see another version above.
I would like to offer thanks to our various contributors over the years, especially Scott Messenger who compiled the superb history section as well as providing match reports for the majority of the games in the 'earlier' days. A big thank you goes out to Alan Sinclair who has always provided quality photos from the matches for our use.
Also a special mention must go to all those that have contributed funds in the past to keep us running successfully, especially the Pit Pony Express who sponsored us for several years.
Now we stand five years on from our original effort. plenty has occured in that time with the website becoming official and attracting hundereds of thousands of visitors in that time. It has been a pleasure to offer the people of Ashington and the exiles a place to keep up with the latest news from Ashington FC and we look forward to serving you further in the future!
