Following the breaking news that José Mourinho has departed Chelsea, sightings early this morning suggest that none other than 'The Special One' is flying up North to take the trip down the A189 for an interview with Ashington Football Club. Quite how club supremo Jimmy Langovich managed to pull this off is anyones guess but it is a major coup for the club.
José is apparantly excited with the prospect of coaching recent signings Paul Bailes, Mark Fitton and Gary Bell, with the latter said to "interest him immensley". Word on the street has it also, that he is paying for Scott "Messy" Messenger to be flown in from London, and put on a permanent contract back up in his home town! Another key factor in his arrival is the lure of LCL and scampy fries, a devine luxury as Ashington folk know only too well. If appointed Jose faces an almighty task of steering the Colliers to safety, however with his tactical nouse and the recent signings chomping at the bit (Bailes chomping at everything in sight) things suddenly look a lot rosier for the sleeping giant from Northumberland.

I was a case of Déjà vu at Welfare Park yesterday as Ashington slipped to a disappointing 2-1 defeat at the hands of near neighbours Bedlington Terriers. The same result occured this time last year in a fixture which Ashington were leading 1-0 at half time only to concede two second half goals.
Ashington dominated the first half and went ahead early through a Paul Dixon strike and could have added to that if it had not been for the crossbar and Terriers goalkeeper Dryden. The second half was exactly the opposite with one way traffic in the Terriers favour, Lee Hamilton eventually equalising with a header. The Terriers second goal was scored from a corner with 15 minutes to go and Ashington never looked like getting level. A disappointing defeat in a game that should have been wrapped up by half time.
