Following the game at South Shields on Saturday it was brought to my attention that one of our supporters had made comments that were offensive and inappropriate. I will be writing to the Chairman of South Shields FC to apologise for any distress caused to their players and/or supporters and advising him that we do not condone those comments nor do they reflect the views of our club and its supporters.

This issue will be dealt with internally by Ashington CFC and I do not think it would appropriate to make any further comments at this stage.

Ashington Football Club would like to place on record it’s thanks to both Blyth Spartans and Blyth Valley Borough Council.

Since Ashington FC moved away from Portland Park we have been looking at ways to raise money to help the club during the difficult period of having no home ground. One suggestion was to host a Legends game similar to that at Portland Park last year and hold it at Croft Park. Both organisations were extremely helpful and it is only the fact that the date suggested was the last day of the Premiership season that has meant the game has had to be ‘put back'

17-04-2008

Ashington's fate is now firmly in their own hands after the midweek results.

Three more points from the remaining two games at Northallerton or Washington will secure The Colliers First Division status for another year and will complete a remarkable turnaround since Andy Gowens took the hotseat.

Perhaps on the run up to and during the last game at Portland Park I was a tad hasty. The feelings of loss had obscured the fact that Portland Park had become a dump! I thoroughly enjoyed the last night even though I ended up going behind the bar to put on a cd and stayed there for most of the first half! The drink the bar dry was more successful than anyone had hoped and irony of ironies it was ASDA that came to the rescue The next day...

It was the same old story for Ashington today as the Colliers suffered a 4-0 defeat at West Auckland. West had a 3-0 lead at half time and the game never looked like changing any other way after that. The lads suffered a few injuries including Ryan Hogg being stretchered off.

In reality West were not much better than Ashington but yet again defensive lapses cost them. Full report online now.

Following the breaking news that José Mourinho has departed Chelsea, sightings early this morning suggest that none other than 'The Special One' is flying up North to take the trip down the A189 for an interview with Ashington Football Club. Quite how club supremo Jimmy Langovich managed to pull this off is anyones guess but it is a major coup for the club.

José is apparantly excited with the prospect of coaching recent signings Paul Bailes, Mark Fitton and Gary Bell, with the latter said to "interest him immensley". Word on the street has it also, that he is paying for Scott "Messy" Messenger to be flown in from London, and put on a permanent  contract back up in his home town! Another key factor in his arrival is the lure of LCL and scampy fries, a devine luxury as Ashington folk know only too well. If appointed Jose faces an almighty task of steering the Colliers to safety, however with his tactical nouse and the recent signings chomping at the bit (Bailes chomping at everything in sight) things suddenly look a lot rosier for the sleeping giant from Northumberland.

Ashington were knocked out the FA Vase yesterday at Crook Town in a performance that did not really warrant any other outcome.

The match was scoreless after 90 minutes and almost immediately after the extra time period started Crook went ahead. They soon added a second in almost identical fashion to take a strong hold on the game. Ashington pulled a goal back through Lee Anderson soon after but it was not enough to save the game and the Colliers place in the FA Vase.

I was a case of Déjà vu at Welfare Park yesterday as Ashington slipped to a disappointing 2-1 defeat at the hands of near neighbours Bedlington Terriers. The same result occured this time last year in a fixture which Ashington were leading 1-0 at half time only to concede two second half goals.

Ashington dominated the first half and went ahead early through a Paul Dixon strike and could have added to that if it had not been for the crossbar and Terriers goalkeeper Dryden. The second half was exactly the opposite with one way traffic in the Terriers favour, Lee Hamilton eventually equalising with a header. The Terriers second goal was scored from a corner with 15 minutes to go and Ashington never looked like getting level. A disappointing defeat in a game that should have been wrapped up by half time. Ashington slipped to a very unlucky 2-1 defeat at home to Billingham Town last night.

The Colliers took the lead through John Ludlow midway through the first half only for Billingham to level before half time. Ashington piled on the pressure at the beginning of the second half and looked most likely to score, however Billingham were awarded a dubious free kick from which they took the lead. Chances came and went for both sides in the remaining 25 minutes but Billingham hung on to take the three points back to Teesside.

A very unlucky outcome for the Colliers in a game spoilt badly by a disappointing referee...
